Item Description

A beautiful and very gemmy, transparent and sparkling tourmaline crystal that presents a full and meaty thumbnail specimen, with a mass of 21.8 grams. It is complete all around and really has the top glassy luster you can ask for. Although it could be from any of a number of classic tourmaline crystal mines in this area, we suspect this is from one of the mines in the Governador Valdares area as far as labels go (no original label could be found as the Halpern # on bottom has decayed over time and was not readable, so it is something he bought probably 40 years ago). We are honored to present another lot of deaccessions to auction from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005. A gorgeous and stout thumbnail gem crystal.
