Tourmalines are some of the most diverse and popular gems out there, as they are found in wide range of colors, and often in larger sized stones. This gem is a fantastic "Emerald" cut stone with a beautiful green color. If you turn the stone slightly on one side, you can see there's a slight gradient to the color, revealing more of a yellow hue, a very pleasing effect. One of the most impressive aspects of this gem is the fact that it is nearly eye clean, which is significant for Tourmaline as the material is classified as a "Type-3" gemstone. This means inclusions are almost always present, and accepted by dealers and collectors, so when you find a virtually eye clean stone like this that weighs 8 carats(!), it's a big deal. I have to say that these stones are becoming harder and harder to find these days, and who knows if we'll get anything good out of Afghanistan anytime soon.
