Among many collectors around for awhile you can simply say "a Golconda," and we all know what is being thought of: a tourmaline with this characteristic style of which so few are known to exist, might be the highlight of a pre-1970 mineral collection tourmaline suite and is incredibly rare today. As highlighted in the Mineralogical Record, Sept.-Oct. 2019, green cores and pink terminations in superb, elbaite crystals were discovered in one pocket in the Golconda Mine in 1967. This specimen consists of one bicolored pink and green elbaite, to 2.8 cm in length, with a sidecar attached. It is more than "just a single" because it is a cluster, and probably from the single most famous historic pocket of old mining in Brazil, to mineral collectors at the time. This is a true rarity, and a perfect thumbnail specimen as well. Photos by Jingnan Zhang.
