Item Description

Tourmaline gems are found from several places around the world, most notably in the modern era from Afghanistan, California, Brazil, Mozambique, Nigeria and DR Congo. These stones are rightfully celebrated for their wonderful color and quality, but the important historic material from Newry, Maine maintains a fairly low profile, despite the fact that top stones are every bit as good as anything you'll find from anywhere else in the world. The limited quantity of material from Newry on the market contributes to its lack of publicity, but the best stones are truly world-class. This gem is a beautiful, small, light blue colored gem with a "Square Brilliant" cut. Only very slight inclusions are visible under magnification, but it's important to remember that Tourmaline is a ype-3 gemstone which means that inclusions in the stones are acceptable in the trade for collectors and dealers. With that said, it is very difficult to find a "clean" Tourmaline that is over a carat, especially from Newry.
