Classic and excellent old-time polychrome tourmaline from Minas Gerais. Glassy, highly lustrous, the trigonal crystal is well-striated with an interesting offset pyramidal termination. The gemmy/translucent termination is a rich golden-yellow above a variable thickness rich pink under normal light. The remainder of the crystal is rich grass-green. Backlighting reveals a whole new color world to this fine gemmy/translucent tourmaline. The golden-yellow and pink termination section blends into a wondrous yellow-orange. The mid-section is a bright grass-green and the basal section is teal-blue! Complete all-around and nearly pristine with only one small area of out-of-sight bruising and contacting. This remarkable tourmaline is from an unknown pegmatite in the well-known São José da Safira area, near to the renowned Pederneira Mine. An outstanding and colorful old-time 360-degree polychrome tourmaline from Brazil dating to the 1970s and 80s.
