Item Description

Topaz is one of the most desirable and certainly one of the scarcest mineral species from the famous pegmatites of San Diego County. Most illustrated specimens come from the famous Little Three Mine. This classic old-time cutie is from an unknown locale. The colorless gem crystal has fine all-around form with the textbook chisel termination and the side car topaz is an adorable accessory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1685 and acquired from the Shales's July, 1960. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). An extraordinary old-time San Diego County topaz miniature, that predates the major 1976 and 1991 finds at the Little Three Mine and could be over a century old. A proper cleaning to remove the iron oxides would certainly benefit this wonderful piece.
