Topaz with Smoky Quartz

Klein Spitzkopje in Namibia is well-known for its Topaz, and Topaz/Smoky Quartz specimens are the most desired for matrix association and found in only 1 out of hundreds of specimens. And of the many that I have seen, this is certainly one of the finest. First of all, the Topaz crystal is quite large in this balanced specimen, 4.5 x 4.2 cm; and it is nearly PRISTINE save for a tiny bit of wear along only one prism edge. The exceptionally long, 5.5 cm Smoky is gemmy and also nearly pristine (with only a bit of wear along the termination). Considering their size, and that is was mined out of a pocket in granite, the excellent overall condition is a minor miracle. The quality and impressive size of the crystals create a fine aesthetic that is especially heartwarming to those collectors that really know the history of the locality.
