Item Description

The extrusive gray rhyolite of the Thomas Range in Utah is the matrix for glassy and gemmy, cognac colored topaz crystals, here to 1.0 cm in length. Also emplaced on the matrix are lustrous, metallic, black pseudomorphs, to 7mm across. The replacement is of hematite, after garnet! Quite rare. This is an aesthetic combination specimen aside from that rarity, though. Jack purchased this from retired dealer Mark Rogers in the 1980s
