Topaz (var: Imperial) on Quartz (RARE matrix specimen)

The finest crystals of Imperial Topaz are those from the famous locality at Ouro Preto, Brazil. Thousands of crystals have been mined over the decades, but the vast majority of them are loose singles off matrix. It's incredibly rare to find an Imperial Topaz on matrix from this locality, and we've only had a few of them over the years to offer in the auctions. This piece is a good representative example of the material featuring a 2.0 cm, sharp, lustrous, gemmy rich orange color crystal sitting atop a GEM QUALITY partial crystal of Quartz. The Quartz crystal is not complete, but the fact that the Topaz is sitting on the broken face means that the crystal was broken underground prior to the Topaz growing on top of it. As I mentioned, a matrix Imperial is certainly rare, and if you collect gem crystals, pegmatite minerals or Brazil specimens, this piece would make a cool addition to your collection.
