Item Description
A very good sized, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, prismatic, slightly etched, natural blue color orthorhombic Topaz crystal from this classic Spanish locality. Topaz specimens from Spain are uncommon from the five localities listed by MINDAT. Most specimens have come from the San Nicolas Mine. The chisel termination faces are strikingly scalloped, but are difficult to see in the photos. Deposits were intermittently mined from 1912 to 1990 and good specimens are seldom available. Weighs 45.23 grams. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7252). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Valued at $750.
