Item Description

Topaz specimens from this historic German locality are a much sought-after European classic. Two, gem, yellow, topaz crystals are aesthetically set in the large sculptural vug filled with quartz points on the banded gneiss matrix. The topaz crystals reach about 1.2 cm tall. Scattered broken topaz and quartz crystals are noted, but have minimal impact to this important old-timer. The piece was formerly in the George Kunz Collection (1886) and then the New York State Museum, and then in the George Elling collection. An excellent combination specimen from this famous locale with a fine provenance. The back has been sawed to enhance the display by removing excess rock. Valued at $2000. This is the largest such matrix specimen I have seen for sale from this old locality!
