Item Description

A hard to find piece of Topaz from the Diamond Rocks locality in Northern Ireland. I've seen a handful of these over the years, but this might be first one that we've had to offer in the auctions. This pegmatite locality is probably best known for its Topaz crystals, which have been collected since the 1800s by a man named Patrick Doran (nicknamed "Diamond Pat" according to the entry on mindat.org). This specimen features a little (3 mm), sharp, well-formed, gemmy, colorless prismatic Topaz crystal sitting among blocky cream colored Feldspar and Smoky Quartz on granite matrix. We've photographed the Topaz with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect pegmatite minerals, worldwide Topaz or minerals of the UK, don't miss out on this one.
From the collection of Tim Sherburn.
