Let me start by saying that this stone was custom faceted by Allyce Kosnar of Kosnar Gem Co., and she hand selected the rough specifically for this cut. The gem has a rich sky blue color and looks dazzling with the custom "Modified Square Cushion" cut. I would say that this gem could be called "London Blue" Topaz, which has been around for approximately 30 years and made a huge splash when it was introduced on the market. This material typically starts out as colorless Topaz and is treated to create the rich blue color. This method is well known in the gem trade and is not at all frowned upon, provided that people KNOW that they're buying a treated gem. The color in this material is what attracts collectors. The stone is nearly eye clean, and for a blue Topaz, it's a fantastic stone for any collector. The starting bid on this stone puts it under wholesale, which is a GREAT price for a gem of this size, quality and calibre.
