Item Description

The Topaz crystals from Tepetate are similar in some instances to those from the Thomas Range in western Utah. They are slightly different in terms of crystal habit and color however, and this one is clearly from Mexico due to the red color. This piece features a cluster of sharp, lustrous, fine quality, reddish colored crystals of Topaz measuring up to 1.1 cm sitting on rhyolite matrix. The main crystal is actually doubly-terminated, and Both crystals are in excellent shape, though one does have a slight bit of roughness on the termination. If you look at the piece at the right angle, it look just like a shoe, and the little Topaz crystals are a decorative bow! A wonderful miniature sized specimen of this classic material from Mexico. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
