Topaz and Hydroxylherderite on Quartz

A rare pegmatite gem crystal assemblage here, featuring a sharp herderite crystal (gray-greenish) perched on a sharp gem topaz, itself perched on a doubly terminated quartz point! Crazy to think how this formed...and survived. It is like two little jewels, perched upon a quartz, all in balance. Gene Meieran is known for collecting big expensive gem crystals to be sure, but his passion was really in the breadth and diversity of the gem species, and he particularly liked to collect unique combination pieces, and assemblages. The bulk of his collection in quantity over years was always more this kind of mineral, than the big famous gem crystals themselves.
