Item Description

A lovely 2 piece set of rarely seen classic Topaz specimens from a locality best known for its Spessartine crystals in Colorado. It should be noted that these specimens are accompanied by a typed label from Willard Wulff that says they are associated with Spessartine, but upon close inspection, I can't find any Garnet crystals anywhere, so they may only feature Topaz. With that said, the larger of the two specimens hosts a multi-terminated, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, nearly colorless crystal group of Topaz measuring about 3 mm long nestled into a vug of rhyolite matrix. The smaller of the two piece features a solitary Topaz crystal in a vug, but it's smaller, and looks like it could be cleaved upon close inspection. A great old pair of specimens that were collected many decades ago. These specimens come from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The pieces come with a typed label from Wulff that that states they were self-collected
