Item Description

The big chrome mine at Sarany produced some superb examples of a few particular species, including some of the finest chromium-bearing Titanites ever seen. These specimens started showing up on the Western market in the early 1990s, but are few and far between today. This piece hosts a wonderful, very sharp, lustrous, classic, "wedge"-shaped, tabular crystal of "Chrome Titanite" measuring 2.4 cm, along with a few additional smaller crystals, sitting atop silvery-purple Clinochlore on Chromite matrix. The Titanites have a rich saturated green hue due to their chromium content, and they show fairly good translucency when backlit. This color is about as green as Titanite gets, and it's hard to find a showy matrix display specimen like this these days. The piece comes from the inventory of Brian Kosnar, valued at $1,500.
