Item Description

Titanite specimens of this quality and richness are very uncommon from this classic Austrian locale, that straddles the Austrian and Italian border. Two generations of titanite crystals are aesthetically clustered on the matrix. The larger twins at the top, to 1.2 cm, are beautifully gemmy honey-brown or are coated/included with chlorite. All of the crystals in the dense elongate cluster near the base are gemmy yellow-green and reach 6 mm. This is undoubtedly old-time, around 100 years old or more, but no proof. From an East Coast collection and comes with a Hugh Ford label dating from 1946-57. Titanite is one of the most desirable species from the Alps and this is an exceptional example for the locale.
