Item Description

Going back to the 1990s, Tormiq started yielding superb crystallized Titanite specimens, which vary in a range of colors and habits. Different discoveries produced specimens that feature disc-like, tabular pinkish crystals and steep, honey colored wedge shaped crystals, but the most popular and attractive of all the habits of Titanite from this locality would have to be the gemmy, green, twinned crystals are by far the most desirable. These are "Alpine-type" Titanite crystals, reminiscent of the famous European Alpine Titanites from Austria, Italy or Switzerland. They would be worth a great deal to any Alpine collector if there were found in Europe. This specimen features a very pronounced, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, strong green color, twinned crystal of Titanite measuring 4.1 cm, associated with blocky white crystals of Adularia Feldspar on matrix. No major damage that I can see with the naked, and it displays beautifully. These pieces are some of the most difficult to obtain from Pakistan, and are now scarce on the market. This one is certainly worth picking up for anybody who collects minerals of Pakistan, "Alpine-type" minerals or simply fine display specimens. If I had this one priced for sale at a show, it would be in the $4,000-$5,000 range.
From the collection of Jack Halpern No. 2624. Jack was born May 18, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, but has been a long-time resident of San Francisco. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the world encompassing over 3,200 specimens with a specific emphasis on color, quality, and style/aesthetics, which is evident in every piece. He admired specimens of all sizes from thumbnails to large cabinets and the vast majority of them rank from fine to world-class in their quality.
Above all else, Jack is considered to be the greatest gentleman in the modern era of mineral collecting. He is beloved by all those who have met him, and he truly is one of the most iconic figures in the mineral world. We recently acquired Jack's collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality pieces for their collections.
