Item Description

Here we have an attractive, richly colored faceted gem of Titanite (Sphene) from Pakistan with excellent clarity, brilliance and dispersion. Titanite is the actual name of the species, but I would like to note that in the gem world, you will see this material labeled as "Sphene", but mineral dealers will label it as Titanite. "Sphene" is an outdated term, but it still gets a lot of use in the gem world for whatever reason. The best faceted Titanites show a brilliant array of color flash due to the high refractive index of the material, They look best in sunlight or sometimes under mercury bulbs. This particular stone is a fantastic "Trillion Brilliant" cut gem with a rich yellow gold color, showing slight golden and greenish flashes. The stone has nearly eye-clean clarity. There are not many places in the world where good gem quality Titanites are found, and this one would make a nice addition to any collection.
