Titanite (RARE matrix specimen) (ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection)

A beautiful and striking display specimen of the seldom seen Titanites from the Ankarafa titanite claim in Madagascar. The piece hosts a sharp, well-formed, thin, tabular, bright green colored "wedge"-shaped Titanite crystal measuring 4.7 cm long aesthetically perched on matrix. There is a bit of embedded matrix on the top of the crystal, where it must have grown into the hanging wall of the pocket. Minor Quartz crystals can be seen, and the underside of the piece is covered with dark green Epidote prisms. A showy and highly presentable example of these classic and fine quality Titanites. It's notably rare to find good crystals on matrix like this as well! Valued around $2,000-$2,500. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
