Item Description
An impressive, large, two-sided flattened, textbook titanite crystal from the well-known Tory Hill area of the famous Bancroft area of Ontario, Canada. The lustrous, brownish-black crystal has twinning planes on both faces and sharp tapered edges. The embedded red Fluorapatite and Feldspar are excellent accessories and contrasts. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. Large titanite specimens of this quality are RARE from Tory Hill. Al acquired this very fine old-timer from Phil Wolford in 1968.
