Item Description
A fantastic matrix display specimen of the famous Titanite (Sphene) crystals from the Capelinha municipality of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This piece is a fine example as it is not only showy, but it has the rarely seen association of blocky porcelain-esque white Albite (var: Pericline) crystals. Matrix Titanite specimens are not unheard of from this area, but it's downright RARE to find a crystal on Pericline like this. The crystal itself measures 3.2 cm long, and is a fine, very sharp, classic, gemmy, well-formed, "wedge"-shaped twin with various colors ranging from bright green to yellow to golden. When the piece is under halogen lighting, the Titanite shows much more of a yellow and golden hue, but you can see a much stronger saturated green color outdoors. The central portion of the Titanite is virtually WATER CLEAR, as you can see with some backlighting. No major damage anywhere, save the base where it was detached from the pocket wall, and the piece SITS AS DISPLAYED without the aid of a base or clay! A beautiful and high quality old time piece of this seldom-seen material. From the collection of world famous mineral dealer Richard A. Kosnar (the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite), who had a strong presence in Brazil in the 1970s and imported many gem crystals during that period. Priced at $2,500 in the inventory.
