Item Description

An excellent, large, and sculptural combination specimen of rare species from Searles Lake, California and the Al Ordway Collection # 2582. Intergrown, sharply terminated, blocky borax crystals are pseudomorphed by snow-white tincalconite. A bit of translucent, gray hanksite is well-placed on the front. Hanksite is a rare sulfate and tincalconite is a rare borate. Searles Lake is the Type Locality for both species. This is a striking, very fine, complete all-around and nearly pristine combination example of these rare species. Self-collected in 2003, according to the label. This is as fine a piece a sany I have seen recently, and one of the larger and more robust single crystals. Valued $750-1000
