Item Description
Tilasite is a rare Ca-Mg arsenate with a halogen. The famous and historic Langban Mn-Fe deposit is the Type Locality. The rich sculptural two-sided piece includes sugary microcrystalline tilasite and calcite along with contrasting sparkly hematite or braunite ore. The SW UV photos highlight the banded nature of the tilasite and calcite around the dark ore minerals. The tilasite fluoresces red and the calcite fluoresces red-orange. You can see the subtle color differences between the tilasite and calcite in the normal photos. Rich combination material from the David Burgess Collection. Tilasite specimens are uncommon from Langban.
