Item Description
Thomsonite is a fairly rare member of the Zeolite group, and for collectors of New Jersey Trap Rock minerals, Thomsonite is certainly one of the most highly sought after and rarely seen species. Good Thomsonites are few and far between, not only from New Jersey, but virtually any world locality. Arguable, the finest crystallized Thomsonites extant are those from the Lower New Street Quarry in New Jersey. This now defunct locality dates back over 100 years, and produced some exemplarty Zeolites and associated species when it was active. This piece features an excellent quality, attractive, "snowball"-like radial aggregate of Thomsonite aesthetically sitting atop green Prehnite with minor Calcite on basalt matrix. The Thomsonite "ball" measures 2.2 cm across, and is in great shape on the display side. Rarely are LNS Thomsonites available on the market, and this piece certainly would make worthwhile addition to any Zeolite suite, or a collection of New Jersey minerals. Ex Brian Kosnar collection, originally from Eric Stanchich by way of the Alan Beres collection.
