Item Description
Thomsenolite is a rare hydrated sodium calcium aluminum Halide, and discrete, isolated Thomsenolite crystals are rare. This superb small cab, from the Type Locality of Ivigtut, has an abundance of slender, prismatic, rust-stained crystals up to .3-.4 cm. These Thomsenolites have the classic flat terminations, and they are associated with pearly Cryolite crystals up to 1.5 cm on massive cryolite matrix. There may be other minerals as well, present. For the last century and a half, Thomsenolite specimens from Greenland have been, and continue to be, the standard for the species. The locality is long gone and underwater. This is a very showy and excellent LARGE piece. Mined between 1880 and 1900, this is from the Stockholm Museum. valued $1200
