Item Description

Thomsenolite is a rare hydrated sodium calcium aluminum Halide. This excellent combination piece contains three Type Locality minerals, plus one. All rare, with needle-like to rhombohedral to massive habits. The luster can be almost pearly, especially in the Cryolite. For the last century and a half, Thomsenolite specimens from Greenland have been, and continue to be, the standard for the species. The locality is long gone and underwater. Though not elegant, this cabinet specimen has importance. Likely mined between 1880 and 1900, this is from the U. of Copenhagen Museum and the Bill Smith collections. valued $500-1000 Labels included.
