Item Description

The Soda Lake evaporite deposit is well-known for thenardite (a Na-sulfate species) specimens and this is an outstanding pristine large example. Sharp, partially translucent, lustrous, gray orthorhombic dipyramidal thenardite crystals are densely intergrown on this dramatic 3-dimensional solid floater crust. The impressive, shapely large crystal on the edge is 2.7 x 2.6 x 1.3 cm. Formerly in the Steve Shailer Collection. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A very choice large example from the locale , which gave up best of species material, and from important California collections. Hard to value as ou never see them for sale!
