Item Description
Sparkly, knobby, crudely orthorhombic thenardite crystals, Na-sulfate, cover a surreal large hollow tub lined with very sparkly tiny halite crystals, NaCl. This is an otherworldly and rare large specimen from this ancient area, that was likely worked for salt as long as 2000 years ago (MINDAT). The Camp Verde Mine, a salt-clay-gypsum mine, was active in the 1920s and 1930s. Many fine and unusual specimens have been collected since then and this is certainly one of them. We were told by an Arizona expert, that these were recovered in the early 1990s.
