Item Description
Here we have an excellent and incredibly hard to find matrix display specimen of the rare Mica species, Tetraferriphlogopite from the type locality in Kovdor Massif of Russia. This piece hosts several euhedral, very well-formed, notably sharp, rather lustrous, hexagonal crystal groups measuring up to 3.3 cm, sitting on matrix. Typically the crystals from this locality are thin and tabular, and often badly damaged, but you can see how thick and robust the main crystal group is on this specimen. The color of the crystals is nearly black, but with strong backlighting, you can see a deep bronze hue on the edges. This is quite possibly the finest example of this material that we've ever had to offer, so if you collect Mica species, rare minerals or specimens from Russia, don't miss out on this attractive and high quality example. From the collection of Colin Manlove. Valued at $1,500-$2,000 retail.
