Item Description
Native iron is extremely rare in igneous rocks, even though it forms the majority of the earth"s core. This RARE and rarely available specimen from near Mt. Fuji in Japan features two veins of metallic-bright, silvery native iron in a serpentinite matrix. Serpentinites are formed by the hydration and high-grade metamorphism of serpentine group minerals in ultramafic rocks from the earth's mantle. Think plate tectonics here. VERY RARE MATERIAL!
