Item Description
I have to be honest, I thought this piece was from Franklin, New Jersey when I first saw it, and then I was blown away to see it was from the little known Treburland Manganese deposits in Cornwall, England! I've never seen a crumb of this material before this specimen. I looked for references online for another piece of Tephroite from this locality, and I can't find anything, so if you collect manganese-bearing minerals, or Cornish minerals, this is a big deal as these seem to be ridiculously hard to find. The piece hosts dark grey massive Tephroite along with saturated pink massive Rhodonite for a beautiful contrast of color. There is little information about this locality available, and the listing on mindat.org states that, "The only recorded output is for 470 tons of ore between the years 1887 and 1890". I don't know if the locality produced beyond the 1890s, so it's hard to know when this piece was collected. There is a solitary hand-written label that accompanies the piece, but it doesn't have a collection attribution. The label does mention that the piece could be from the Bob Kaar collection. A really unique and desirable specimen, the likes of which we probably will not see again anytime soon.
