Item Description

Lustrous metallic-gray tennanite-tetrahedrite epitaxically coated compound and isolated chalcopyrite and sphalerite crystals and are attactively studded on the very sculptural large 3-dimensional quartz crystal matrix with a prominent ridge. This is dramatic and impressive old-time combination material from the famous El Cobre Mine at Concepcion del Oro. Compound crystals are up to 1.7 cm and the striking sharp single crystals reach 9 mm. A few gently bruised crystals reveal the bright iridescent chalcopyrite beneath the overgrowths. A similar specimen is figured on Page 602 of the 2016 El Cobre Mine article in the Mineralogical Record Mexico Special Issue VII, Vol. 47, No. 5. An exceptional, large and rare 360-degree specimen. Old-time, uncommon material collected from the early 1950s to early 1970s.
