Item Description

Lustrous to matte-finish gray tennantite-tetrahedrite epitaxially coates compound and isolated chalcopyrite and sphalerite crystals and are peppered on the sculptural and impressive large 3-dimensional quartz crystal matrix. The bruised 2.4 crystal cluster on the right side reveals the underlying iridescent, golden metallic chalcopyrite crystals. A similar specimen is figured on Page 602 of the 2016 El Cobre Mine article in the Mineralogical Record Mexico Special Issue VII, Vol. 47, No. 5. 1059 grams or 2.3 pounds mass. Ex David Burgess Collection, a well-known East Coast collector who passed away in 2016. The VERY RARE mineral Burgessite is named after him. Classic old-time large material dating to the 1970s from the famous El Cobre Mine.
