Item Description
A classic and eye-catching Tennantite specimen from Tsumeb. Not only is this mien regarded as one of, if not THE greatest mineral localities in the world, but a good percentage of the minerals found there are among the top examples of their respective species ever found, including the Tennantites. It should be noted that the specific species for this specimen is not known, so technically it should be labeled as "Tennantite Subgroup". This piece is sculptural and three-dimensional, featuring a several tetrahedrons of dark grey-black colored Tennantite, beautifully intergrown to create a showy overall display specimen. The largest Tennantite crystal measures 1.2 cm across. Most of the crystals are undamaged and the piece displays wonderfully as you can see in the photos. This is a very god example of a fairly rare ore mineral at Tsumeb. Older material from this renowned locale, dating back to the 1960s-1970s era of mining.
From the collection of Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar (1946-2007), the well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado. Rich imported a large number of Tsumeb minerals in the 1970s when he was in a partnership with another famed mineral dealer, Charlie Key (who had TWO minerals from Tsumeb named after him).
