Item Description

Tarbuttite is an ultra-rare zinc phosphate and the famed Broken Hill Mine of Zambia is the Type Locality. Glassy, bladed aggregates of iron oxide-tinted sheaf-like crystals very aesthetically cover the sculptural gossan matrix, which is nearly totally covered with small oxide-stained smithsonite crystals. Large for the locale, these crystals reach 1.2 cm. This is an exceptional combination example of the rarity from the Type Locality. Specimens, such as this fine old-timer probably date from 1970s or earlier. Ex Marty Zinn Collection. Valued at $750.
