Item Description

Tarbuttite is a rare hydroxy zinc phosphate which was named after Percy Coventry Tarbutt, who was one of the directors of the Broken Hill Exploration Company who collected some of the first specimens at Broken Hill (now Kabwe), Zambia. This is an attractive old-time specimen of lustrous, gemmy Tarbuttite crystals to 1+ mm nicely perched on matrix from the type locality in Zambia. A great rarity for species collectors. We photographed this piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to illustrate the quality. This piece comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals, which immediately increases the value. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371
