Tanzanite on Gypsum (RARE combo)

A RARE and fantastic combination from Merelani, source of the world's finest tanzanite specimens. Gypsum is ULTRA RARE from here. MINDAT lists the species, but there are no photos in the locality gallery. A striking, sculptural, 2.9 x 2.1 x 1.9 cm, bi-colored tanzanite crystal is dramatically set atop the blocky transparent to translucent gypsum cleaveage. The sharp, very glassy, highly lustrous crystal is transparent to translucent and has highly unusual form. Back lighting highlights classic tanzanite pleochrosim with rich blue, violet and red hues. Strikingly, part of the crystal has golden-yellow color, adding real pizzazz to this immensely artistic and RARE combination. The broken back of the crystal really shows the golden-yellow and red color saturations. Value of such a unique Merilani combination rarity??? We feel $1500-2000 is fair.
