Tanzanite on Calcite

Tanzanite is one of the most popluar gems in the world, and fine crystals are fast becoming some of the most desireable gem crystals in the world. This piece is a rarely seen matrix specimen of Tanzanite featuring a few multi-colored, thin, prismatic gemmy crystals of Tanzanite on contrasting white Calcite matrix with minor Pyrite. A few of the Tanzanite crystals are contacted, but the main crystal in the front, which measures 5.1 cm, is in very good condition. The beautiful purplish-blue and yellow color zoning along with the high luster and excellent gemminess of the crystals makes for a wonderfully well-rounded specimen. Obviously it's not perfect, but it's still a gorgeous and three-dimensional small cabinet display specimen of one of the most sought after minerals for collectors. As I said, matrix specimens are few and far between, and if you're in the market for a less than perfect matrix Tanzanite specimen, don't pass this one up. For what it's worth, the piece was priced in the inventory at $7500. It also comes with a custom made display base!
