Item Description

A colorful, partially gemmy and blocky tanzanite crystal from recent finds. The untreated crystal exhibits classic pleochrosim. The frontal views of this sharply terminated crystal are a pleasing blue and the end-on views are bluish-purple. No red is visible down the C-axis, as the base of the crystal is opaque. The upper half of crystal is gemmy and the internal crazing adds character and gives the piece a striking visual aspect. Complete all-around and pristine. A classic and excellent Merelani tanzanite. 54.08 carats or nearly 11 grams. Ex Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection.
