Tanzanite from this important locality, actually the ONLY locality, is one of those gem species that every collector wants to own an example of. Yet, most single crystals are more or less the same, just of different sizes or weights or degrees of gemminess throughout. This piece, however, is really quite different than any other I have held. It is a thin, scalloped crystal with unusual edges and a look as if it were carved. It is razor sharp, completely gemmy and transparent, and just highly unusual. Although it is not the "classic style" for tanzanite, we found it very interesting and bought it from a gem rough dealer last year. valued $2500-3000. Comes with custom lucite display base.
