Tanzanite

This is an elongated, slightly flattened, elegant crystal of zoisite var. tanzanite. The crystal clearly exhibits two of the colors associated with gem tanzanite, purple and blue on rotated 90-degree axes from one another. The color is natural, not enhanced by heat treatment. It is lustrous and partially transparent, having two gemmy areas large enough to be facetted, if anyone so desires. Although tall, its gem weight is 17 grams, which allowed us to purchase it from a source in the wholesale gem trade at a very good price that a specimen dealer would never have sold it for, because it presents with more volume than its mass would indicate. Thus, it is definitely one of the better tanzanites overall for presentation qualities in this size range, that I could ever get for resale at any price in the $2500-5000 range. And, we think this is fairly valued at $3000-3500. Very impressive in person.
