Item Description

A stunning intensely blue tanzanite on one side, and stunning deep royal purple when turned 90 degrees - classic dichroic color for a tanzanite from this famous locale. This crystal of dichroic tanzanite has been heat treated to bring it to this even hue (it has a certain look to the experienced eye), but we consider heated tanzanite acceptable when disclosed (unique in gem specimens), as it is so beautiful and as this makes up the bulk of the available crystals anyhow. It has been repaired near the center of the crystal but this is virtually invisible to the eye unless you look close...as verified by the fact that neither the original owner nor myself noted the repair until I was photographing it and indeed looking VERY close for the work. So, it LOOKS like a $1200-1500 thumbnail for the intense color and crystal gemminess. There is a fair amount of facet rough value in the termination in any case, even if you just cut the crystal to pieces (perhaps $1000 retail gem value is not out of line). It weighs 48 carats or 9.6 grams
