Tanzanite is a variety of Zoisite, named for the country in which it was first discovered. The first Tanzanites were found in the late 1960s and were immediately recognized for their rarity and beauty. To this day the Merelani Hills are the only locality in the world to produce Tanzanite. Typically, Zoisite is a greenish hue, but the presence of vanadium within the crystals is what gives the gems the distinctive blue/purple color. This is a beautiful little "Round" cut gem with excellent clarity and a purple hue with a slight blue overtone. A classic stone of this world-famous material.
