Item Description

One of the most surprising pseudomorphs that one can imagine are the Talc after Quartz specimens from Germany. The softest mineral has replaced one of the hardest minerals - crazy! This matrix specimen contains numerous well-formed Quartz crystals, up to 1.4 cm across, that have been altered to tan or brown Talc. The luster and definition of these sharp pseudos are very good, and the overall condition is excellent. As these were mined so long ago (I am told the late 1800s and early 1900s), they generally only come available when very large old collections turn up on the market again. This small cab is a dramatic and aesthetic example that, to my mind, stands out. Better in person. ex. Lindemann collection to Kay Robertson collection, acquired in teh 1960s and held until we bought her collection recently. I think these are one of the most amazing replacements in the world, and they are so rarely seen today!
