Szenicsite (incredibly rare)

Item Description

Szenicsite is an incredibly rare copper hydroxy molybdate mineral that was named in honor of the American mineral dealer and collector Terry Szenics, who personally discovered the species in Chile. This mineral is only found in two places in the world according to the entry on mindat.org. The best and most celebrated specimens are those from the Jardinera No. 1 Mine (the type locality for Szenicsite). This piece features platy green crystals of this very rare mineral measuring up to 4 mm on host rock matrix. Additional silvery-grey Molybdenite can be seen on the piece, but if you put the specimen under SW UV light, you'll see a pale yellow fluorescence from massive Powellite (the flourescence looks a bit more green in the video, but it's yellow in person). If you collect specimens from the type locality, very rare species, or minerals named after people, don't less this one pass you by. One rarely has the opportunity to pick up a piece of this material, especially now since nothing is has come from the locality in years, and no more pieces will likely ever be found.
