Szenicsite (ex Szenics & TYPE LOCALITY) with Cu-Powellite

It is truly amazing to discover a beautiful new mineral species in today’s world, in crystals that can reach several centimeters, and few people get the privelege in history for finding a large new mineral species. This is exactly what happened in the early 1990s with the discovery and naming of Szenicsite, a one-locality, very rare copper molybdate with electric green color and equally vivid luster. This was the only major find of the species, and not even a trickle of good specimens followed the first few pockets collected by Terry Szenics, with all good specimens coming through him. The major crystals are found across the matrix, with the largest reaching 1.8 cm. In combination is a very ewird and pretty green mineral that to everybody's shock and surprise turned out to be a Cuprian Powellite, which can be both crystalline or botryoidal ; and has a bright, greenish-white fluorescence. Most any Szenicsite specimen is a rare bird, and a quality one like this, from the TYPE LOCALITY and from the discoverer with his label, all the more. Terry signed his label and also included a rare signed copy of his article to mineral collectors on the new find, some years after it was named. Valued $2000-2500
