Item Description
Remarkable, large and rare, lab-grown synthetic tabular gem quartz crystal used for the telecommunications industry. The striking, water-clear crystal is dramatically accented with scalloped, rippled and glass-clear faces. The unusual modified terminations add even more character. The crystal would have once held small metal seed plates on each termination, which is how the crystals were set in place to grow. This important technology was developed by Bell Labs of New Jersey during the late 1940s to 1956, when production began. The technology was later used by Motorola for the same purposes. Nearly pristine. A contact and two tiny edge bruises on the glass-clear bottom are hard to see from the top and sides. The piece was acquired by a friend of ours who was on a field trip while attending Penn State University as a geology student to the Motorola Plant in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Mass is 170 grams. We found a few more pieces of this RARE material stashed away. Rarely available in this size and quality.
