Item Description
Synthetic stones have their place in the gem world, especially for those who are looking to purchase a high quality item without breaking the bank. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a synthetic stone, provided that both the buyer and seller are aware that the gem has been grown, and didn't come from a natural source. I'm sure many of you have seen the surge of synthetic (lab-grown) Diamonds on the market recently, which may eventually replace natural Diamonds in modern jewelry. This stone is a beautiful synthetic emerald, with an intense dark green hue. The color is emerald is caused by vanadium and / or chromium (technically it's vanadium oxide and chromium oxide), and my guess is that both were used to create the color in this gem. I can't say for certain if this gem was hydrothermally grown, or by means of the flux method (like the famous Chatham Emeralds). The stone has a "brilliant pear" cut and is completely clean in terms of clarity. It's a good sized stone for a pendant, or would make a cool addition to any gem suite as a unique novelty.
